Safety Clothes
Bug-Free Clothes
Clothes provide us comfort and protection against hot and cold weather.
It also enhances a person’s physical appearance and makes the wearer more
presentable in any given occasion. Some of our clothes are used very often we
tend to repeatedly wear a few of them before washing. The safety clothes
against pests should not be the least of our concerns to prolong its use.
Commonly used “concoctions” are mothballs that housewives usually place
inside closets to shoo away moths, the no. 1 enemy of our defenseless clothes. However,
this pest repellent is hazardous to our health when either accidentally swallowed
or inhaled. The detrimental effects are dizziness, nausea, headache, vomiting
resulting to loss of weight and, in worst cases, death. It should be out of
reach or out of sight of infants or children because it could be mistaken for a
surprise sweet treat hidden inside a closet.
The good news is there is a natural alternative and it is the opposite
of mothballs in terms of smell and substance. These are the fragrant-smelling
lavenders mostly grown in Mediterranean-like climates which requires several
hours of direct sun and good drainage a day. For application, put dried
lavenders in a sachet made of cloth or old (clean) socks and place some of it inside
your closet. Lavender oils can also be used; in a cup or any small container put
some lavender oil-soaked cotton balls. The result is—instead of the suffocating
smell that mothballs emit—every time you open your closet, you’re nostrils will
be filled with lavender’s delicate scent. The flower’s soothing effect has the
ability to improve a person’s mood. It’s quite popular in Spas, dermatology
clinics, message centers and saunas; you could try to buy lavender oils on these
establishments if you’re having a hard time finding it in a drug store.
Well, it is up to you whether to use mothballs or lavenders, though
mothballs are proven more effective, lavenders doesn’t cause any health risks unlike
the toxic candy-like balls.
